If ever you needed evidence the smoking ban has failed to curb smoking in public places it was shown yesterday. For in the Commons there was more smoke and mirrors than have been in evidence since the last time the Government tried to pull the wool over people's eyes.

The Chancellor and PM would have us believe they have slashed inheritence tax for the hard working people who to use one of Gordon Brown's favourite words, have been prudent throughout their life. Well as pointed out by Dizzy, not all is as it seems.

The capital gains tax change at first light appears welcome - but then having set up my own small business I can rest assured that I will get a good kicking elsewhere.

Indeed as the Spectator's Fraser Nelson points out, this report means yet again taxes are up!
