Personal highlights from Blackpool
For the last few years I have always been somewhat jaded at the party conference as it was always the third conference I would have attended with work commitments. This year it was the first time in ages that I just attended the Tory conference - which meant I could enjoy it much more.
For me there were quite a few highlights.
- Getting the chance to catch up with friends such as Dizzy, Iain, Mike and many others who I havent seen in a while (Conference is always great for catching up).
- Watching the vultures looking for Conference freebies - often acting like a plague of locusts.
- Getting rid of the 2000 Tory Radio CDs (though I did want to kill that bloke who kept collecting all the publcity material without ever sorting it for recycling - the CDs do make a great coaster you know).
- IDS did a great speech. As many have suggested he really has found his vocation, something that was so apparent when I was lucky enough to interview him on the subject some months ago.
- Meeting Cameron for the first time
- Talking about the importance of pharmacy at a great dinner with David Amess.
- Being asked whether I was THE Jonathan Sheppard from Tory Radio in Burger King.
- Getting my wife to get Iain Dale a little gift.
- Riding the tram all the way to Star Gate and looking listening to the running commentary from four ladies aged 80+
- Seeing the press get very disappointed at how united a conference it actually was.
What were your conference highlight?
Tory Radio down in the polls...
It's great to be in that top 20, and now with our brand spanking new website, our hotline which you can call 24hrs a day on 0845 257 0 427, and our ever increasing number of expert columnists we are aiming to shoot back up the charts! In all honesty though, this site is a labour of love.
For those who don't like it, that's fine. As Guido would say - leave your subsciption fee as you close the door behind you. For those of you who do - thanks, and hopefully you'll keep coming back for more!
Tory Radio Roundup - 29 July
Dale sees red on Radio 5
Iain Dale has written on his blog about some comments ex Tory MP David Mellor made on the Worricker programme on Radio 5. To cut a long story short, Mr Mellor wasn't too complimentary about party leader David Cameron.
Let's just say both Iain and David Gold, our candidate in Eltham certainly didn't mince their words, and told Mellor what he could do with his opinions in no uncertain terms!
It's 15 minutes of radio that are well worth a listen, that's for sure!
